I would take you back to the beach

We would walk along the water's edge

Like we used to do

We would sit on those rocks

And listen to the waves

Like we did on that unusually warm day in October

We would talk about our lives

You would listen to me and I to you

We would laugh

You would give me advice

We'd have a blanket to sit on

Feeling the glorious sunshine on our skin

We'd go swimming when it got too hot

I'd have packed a lunch for us

Our favorites from Convito

Or sandwiches from Three Tarts

Like we always used to get

In our conversation

I'd feel heard by you

I'd feel that familiar feeling

Of you offering such support, knowing, and love

We'd talk about how it's the perfect day

You'd share memories with me

Of being a kid and going to the beach

I'd ask you questions about your life before me

You'd share more about yourself

And I'd feel like I would learn your history and

Know your life even more

We'd marvel at all we've been through together

I'd validate your tenacity with me

And express my gratitude

For sticking with it

The thing is

It would be such a special day

But it would be so simple

Those are the days I'm treasuring so much

Being with each other

And just being

Ourselves

I'd take you back to the beach

And it would be the best day ever

Simply because we'd be together
